Four Corners no where it should be?

There is a lot of talk today that the Four Corners Monument (and the boundaries of Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico) measurement is off by about 2 miles.  The truth is, no state is going to get land back because of this.  There is some argument that the prime meridian was not used, but another which would change the measurement.

More realistically though, these boundaries have been set for over 100 years, so there's no way they are changing.

Isn't there a clogged toilet to fix?

Sam the tax evading, non-licensed toilet plunger has his own website now, unless it's some type of joke.  This sad, sad man is obviously trying to make the most of his 15 minutes and has managed to turn it into 15 days.  Apparently he's got a book coming out, and you can buy a subscription to his website for $15.  I guess that will help him pay his back taxes.

Sick People

Wisconsin: people digging up a dead body to fuck it.

The craziest part is that they are being charged with rape, as the court ruled that the corpse cannot consent to sex.  In one way, I disagree with this charge.  Should they be put in a looney bin?  Sure.  But in jail for rape?  Raping a dead body is no more different from raping a pillow, its not living.  In any case, with their pictures plastered all over the internet, the future is not very bright for them.

This guy is not good for the GOP

He thinks that pornography is a Jewish conspiracy, hangs out with guys waving swastikas, and is running for office in Indiana.  Meet the new, young face of the republican party!  Maybe McCain will pick him up as his running mate, after all, he needs to win over those "ultra conservative" voters.

A Good Judge

Many complain that the judges in this country are out of touch, or trying to set their own agendas.  In some ways that may be true, but its not necessarily a bad thing.

Take a look at Judge Olszewski in Pennsylvania.  He recently sentenced three teenage latinos to get GEDs and learn English.  The men were convicted of committing some (relatively) minor street crimes.  They needed translators during the court proceedings.  Obviously locking these guys up for 2 years is going to cost the commonwealth a lot of money and may turn them into career criminals.  This ruling could turn them into more productive citizens and I'm all for it.

DB's Chute?

Update - Guess not.

Some kids in Washington might have found DB Cooper's parachute.

For those of you who don't know who DB Cooper is, back in the good old days of air travel, before you had to walk through a metal detector (let alone take off your shoes) a man boarded a Northwest Orient (now Northwest Airlines) flight and hijacked it.  The government gave him $200,000 (which would be worth about $1 million now) and he got back onto his commandeered 727.  They took off from SEAtac and he jumped out somewhere near the Oregon boarder (the planes have since been fitted with a device to prevent the rear door from opening in flight).

He was never heard from again.

A few years later a kid found several thousand of the ransom money in a river.  But since the river is so far from where the parachute was found, if the chute is genuine it means it is highly likely Cooper survived.

Another strange thing about this case is that it was two children who found the two big pieces of evidence.

Anyway, after 35+ years the case is still open.  If you think your grandpa might be DB Cooper, email the FBI seattle office.  More info can be found here.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em

The sheriff of Oakland County, MI wants to send seized cigars to troops overseas.  Seems to be a decent thing to do.
