I'm all for religious freedom, but...

Religious freedom does not mean being allowed to kill your kid.  This is child abuse.

Liberty to re-open

The Statue of Liberty will almost fully re-open on July 4th.  The only part that won't is the torch, which has been closed for 83 years.  As I said last year, President Obama was one of the main supporters of getting this symbol of freedom opened to all.

Fallout from the NYC flyover

The idiot who made the decision to fly air force one over NYC has resigned.  Not that it was voluntary; President Obama was truly pissed.

Mustard?

Has the right wing seriously been reduced to this?

They are now criticizing President Obama for his choice of hamburger condiment, one that I prefer as well.  This is not elitist, it is fucking mustard.  

The GOP and their ilk are getting very desperate.  We have a recovering economy, an extremely popular president, and everything is clicking.  Which does not bode well for anyone with an (R) next to their name.

A good idea to help with teen drinking

This is an example of a good law. My college actually adopted a similar policy while I was a student there, and it seemed to be well received by all.

Craigslist getting neutered - maybe

Its perfectly acceptable for Craigslist to choose what users can publish on its site. Its perfectly unacceptable for the government to limit that free speech.

And that's what advertisements are, even if the services advertised are not quite legal. It is free speech.

Free speech = first amendment = abolute

The only silver lining is that the founder of Craigslist appears to be fighting this so far.

Pepsi without HFCS

You all know how I feel about high fructose corn syrup - I think it is very unhealthy, a kind of franken-food that is worse than sugar, the natural substance it emulates. It also adds to the American diet that is almost completely corn based. It may cause diabetes.

Interestingly enough, the same beverage makers who unleashed HFCS on us many years ago are starting to switch back or at least give us the choice. Pepsi, a big one, has just introduced Throwback Pepsi, which is advertised as being made from "natural sugar."

Pepsi denies these are any healthier than their other products. Will they be any popular? Only time will tell. I personally prefer Pepsi Max, but if I had to choose between Pepsi and Pepsi Throwback, I'd take this one.

50:1 longshot wins the Derby

Mine That Bird, a 50 to 1 longshot to win the race, has won the Kentucky Derby. It was a pretty impressive site.

Ford back at #2

Ford has moved ahead of Toyota to take back its spot at #2. I think within the year, it may be #1.

Chrysler Files for Bankruptcy

We all knew this was coming.  But how long can GM hold out now?

Chrysler's last day as an independent company was likely today.  The FIAT takeover will be completed soon.  Then again, Chrysler has been taken over in the past, by Daimler. 

The budget moves forward

The $3.4T (that's trillion) budget moves forward. Universal healthcare is truly on the horizon; something that is already given to senior citizens and children will be guaranteed for all.

Not to mention environmental protections and funding for transit and education; all things that will pay dividends for decades and make America competitive again.

100 and counting

Today was President Obama's 100th day in office and I'd say he's done more in 100 days than Bush did in his last term.

Just a list: a stock market on the mend, our national reputation too.  Torture is now prohibited, as it should be by our great nation.  Healthcare and environment reforms, major ones, are on the horizon.  Not to mention a stimulus that has done just that.  

Hope, change, and more hope for a better tomorrow.  Could anyone have predicted it would go this smoothly?

Specter a (D)

Arlen Specter, a long time Republican Senator from PA, is now a Democrat. I think it definitely makes sense for him politically. Outside of the (hick) deep south, there is very little room for republicans in national politics. He saw the writing on the wall, just as other GOPers have lately.

Also, there are a large amount of competition for his seat from the GOP. If he had won the primary, he'd surely win, but that wasn't something that would happen for sure. Specter is a big supporter of several of the President's policies.

Being a republican is getting to be a lonely prospect.

Swine Flu?

I got sick yesterday, same symptoms as the swine flu except for a fever. Who knows?
